- Abstract: We propose a new single photon source based on the principle of active
multiplexing of heralded single photons which, unlike previously reported
architecture, requires a limited amount of physical resources. We discuss both
its feasibility and the purity and indistinguishability of single photons as
function of the key parameters of a possible implementation.

Temporal-to-spatial demultiplexing routes non-simultaneous events of the same spatial mode to distinct output trajectories.
We propose and demonstrate a demultiplexing approach that utilizes only a single active element for routing to, in principle, an arbitrary number of outputs.

We present a new design that exploits the general one-way properties of common switching elements such as thermal pads.
By introducing multiple switches to a basic, temporal multiplexing device, we are able to use slow switching elements in a multiplexed source being pumped at much faster rates.
We model this design under multiple error channels and show that anticipated performance is now limited by the intrinsic loss rate of the optical waveguides.
