- Abstract summary: We propose two realizable experimental schemes, which enable to explore the mysterious parallel universes' by a Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
The first one is based on an atomic ensemble in a superposition state, which is a fat Schr"odinger's cat state.
The second one is to prepare a photon in a superposition of different paths, where each path lies in an optical parallel universe.

- Abstract: Parallel worlds are imaginative ideas in quantum mechanics and cosmology. The
superpositions of parallel worlds are novel states of quantum gravity and have
no classical correspondences generally. In this letter, we investigate the
superposition or the Schr\"odinger's cat state of optical parallel worlds,
which could be realized in laboratory and may shed some light on the detection
of parallel universes in a real world. We propose two realizable experimental
schemes, which enable to explore the mysterious `parallel universes' by a
Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The first one is based on an atomic ensemble in a
superposition state, which is a fat Schr\"odinger's cat state. The second one
is to prepare a photon in a superposition of different paths, where each path
lies in an optical parallel universe.

- Einstein's 1927 gedanken experiment: how to complete it and measure the collapse time of a spatially spread photon [55.2480439325792]
Einstein discussed a gedanken experiment involving a single photon diffracted at an aperture and impinging on a screen.
He devised the example to support De Broglie's hypothesis of the pilot wave, and his own ideas on the incompleteness of the description of physical reality provided by Quantum Mechanics.
Partial realizations of Einstein's example have been performed, but the complete experiment has not been attempted (for good practical reasons) yet.

We give a general proof showing that once irreversible processes are involved, a class of projective measurements is impossible.
Applying this no-go result to the Schroedinger's cat paradox implies that if something is claimed to be a real Schroedinger's cat, there will be no measurable difference between it and a trivial classical mixture of ordinary cats.

Quantum correlations between distant particles remain enigmatic since the birth of quantum mechanics.
We predict a novel kind of bound quantum state in the simplest one-dimensional setup of two interacting particles in a box.
Such states could be realized in the waveguide quantum electrodynamics platform.

The superposition principle is one of the most fundamental principles of quantum mechanics.
Here we demonstrate the preparation of a mechanical resonator with an effective mass of 16.2 micrograms in Schr"odinger cat states of motion.
We show control over the size and phase of the superposition and investigate the decoherence dynamics of these states.

A two-level atom interacting with a cavity mode takes the form of a "virtual" Schr"odinger cat entangled state between light and matter.
