- Abstract: The Schr\"odinger equation is universally accepted due to its excellent
predictions aligning with observed results within its defined conditions.
Nevertheless, it does not seem to possess the simplicity of fundamental laws,
such as Newton's laws of motion. Various insightful attempts have been made to
elucidate the rationale behind the Schr\"odinger equation. This paper seeks to
review existing explanations and propose some prospectives on the derivation of
the Schr\"odinger equation.

We present a new interpretation of quantum mechanics, called the double-scale theory.
It is based on the simultaneous existence of two wave functions in the laboratory reference frame.
The external wave function corresponds to a field that pilots the center-of-mass of the quantum system.
The internal wave function corresponds to the interpretation proposed by Edwin Schr"odinger.

We present an English translation of Erwin Schr"odinger's paper on "On the Reversal of the Laws of Nature"
Schr"odinger's paper acted as a prominent source of inspiration for the works of Bernstein on reciprocal processes and of Kolmogorov on time reversal properties of Markov processes and detailed balance.
We emphasize in our commentary the relevance of Schr"odinger's intuitions for contemporary developments in statistical nano-physics.
