- Abstract: Few-Shot Action Recognition (FS-AR) has shown promising results but is often limited by a closed-set assumption that fails in real-world open-set scenarios. While Few-Shot Open-Set (FSOS) recognition is well-established for images, its extension to spatio-temporal video data remains underexplored. To address this, we propose an architectural extension based on a Feature-Residual Discriminator (FR-Disc), adapting previous work on skeletal data to the more complex video domain. Extensive experiments on five datasets demonstrate that while common open-set techniques provide only marginal gains, our FR-Disc significantly enhances unknown rejection capabilities without compromising closed-set accuracy, setting a new state-of-the-art for FSOS-AR. Open-World Object Detection (OWOD) requires detectors to identify previously unseen objects as unknown and incrementally incorporate them into the set of known categories.<n>Existing frameworks rely heavily on exemplar replay to mitigate catastrophic forgetting, but in some real applications, storing raw data conflicts with data access restrictions and leads to data exposure risks.<n>We propose REAL-OW, a novel rehearsal-free framework that decouples incremental knowledge through a collaborative adapter architecture.

Facial expression recognition (FER) models are typically trained on datasets with a fixed number of seven basic classes.
Recent research works point out that there are far more expressions than the basic ones.
We propose the open-set FER task for the first time.

Open set recognition (OSR) requires the model to classify samples that belong to closed sets while rejecting unknown samples during test.
Currently, generative models often perform better than discriminative models in OSR.
We propose a new model, namely Multi-Expert Diverse Attention Fusion (MEDAF), that learns diverse representations in a discriminative way.

Heterogeneous face recognition (HFR) involves the intricate task of matching face images across the visual domains of visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR)
Much of the existing literature on HFR identifies the domain gap as a primary challenge and directs efforts towards bridging it at either the input or feature level.
We observe that large neural networks, unlike their smaller counterparts, when pre-trained on large scale homogeneous VIS data, demonstrate exceptional zero-shot performance in HFR.

We focus on a challenging task, namely Open-Set Model Attribution (OSMA), to simultaneously attribute images to known models and identify those from unknown ones.
Compared to existing open-set recognition (OSR) tasks, OSMA is more challenging as the distinction between images from known and unknown models may only lie in visually imperceptible traces.
We propose a Progressive Open Space Expansion (POSE) solution, which simulates open-set samples that maintain the same semantics as closed-set samples but embedded with different imperceptible traces.

Traditional machine learning follows a close-set assumption that the training and test set share the same label space.
Open-Set Recognition (OSR) aims to make correct predictions on both close-set samples and open-set samples.
To fix these issues, we propose a novel metric named OpenAUC.

We show that the ability of a classifier to make the 'none-of-above' decision is highly correlated with its accuracy on the closed-set classes.
We use this correlation to boost the performance of the cross-entropy OSR 'baseline' by improving its closed-set accuracy.
We also construct new benchmarks which better respect the task of detecting semantic novelty.

Real-world machine learning systems need to analyze novel testing data that differs from the training data.
Two conceptually elegant ideas for open-set discrimination are: 1) discriminatively learning an open-vs-closed binary discriminator, and 2) unsupervised learning the closed-set data distribution with a GAN.
We propose OpenGAN, which addresses the limitation of each approach by combining them with several technical insights.
