- Abstract: We study the dynamics of a lattice hard-core boson gas released from a domain wall initial state in the presence of two weak links (defects). When the two defects are separated by a finite distance, the resulting density profile exhibits clear deviations from the standard Euler-scale hydrodynamic description of the gas, due to genuine quantum interference effects between the two defects. By analyzing the exact fermionic propagators, we show that repeated reflections at the defects give rise to interference fringes and coherent patterns that are beyond the reach of the (generalized) hydrodynamic description. We derive a closed analytic expression for the density profile during the expansion, explicitly highlighting the role played by these interference processes.

We propose an interferometric method to probe pair correlations in a gas of spin-1/2 fermions.
The method consists of a Ramsey sequence where both spin states of the Fermi gas are set in a superposition of a state at rest and a state with a large recoil velocity.
The off-diagonal long-range order is directly reflected in the behavior of the interferometric signal for long interrogation times.

In the presence of boundaries, the entanglement entropy in lattice models is known to exhibit oscillations with the parity of the subsystem.
We study these oscillations in detail for the case of the XX chain with one modified link or two successive modified links.
In this context, the parity effects can be interpreted in terms of the existence of non-trivial topological phases.
