- Abstract: Quantum mechanically, an electron moving in a uniform magnetic field forms Landau levels. A curious feature is that for states with a negative angular quantum number, the total probability current vanishes, which appears to contradict the classical picture of cyclotron motion. While a geometric interpretation based on classical orbits exists, alternative interpretations remain of interest. In this paper, we examine the probability current density and identify a critical radius that naturally partitions the plane into an inner clockwise-flow region and an outer counterclockwise-flow region. We show that the vanishing total current results from an exact cancellation between these two regions. Furthermore, by defining a partitioned kinetic angular momentum with respect to the critical radius, we reveal an intrinsic competitive structure: the electron simultaneously carries two opposing rotational components. The negative quantum number manifests in the strength of the inner counter-rotation, while the net kinetic angular momentum remains positive. This bidirectional flow picture also provides a dynamical interpretation of the infinite degeneracy of Landau levels.

A quantum simulation of magnetism in trapped-ion systems makes use of the crystal vibrations to mediate pairwise interactions between spins.
These interactions can be accounted for by a long-wavelength relativistic theory, where the phonons are described by a coarse-grained Klein-Gordon field.
We show that thermal effects, which can be controlled by laser cooling, can unveil this flow through the appearance of thermal masses in interacting QFTs.

We argue that classical electrodynamics can predict nonlocal effects by showing an example of a topological and nonlocal electromagnetic angular momentum.
We unify both angular momenta by means of the electromagnetic angular momentum arising in the configuration formed by a dyon encircling an infinitely-long dual solenoid.
We verify that this duality-invariant electromagnetic angular momentum is insensitive to the radiative effects of the Li'enard-Wiechert fields of the encircling dyon.

We report on an emergent mechanism for pumping in a quantum gas coupled to an optical resonator.
Due to dissipation, the cavity field evolves between its two quadratures, each corresponding to a different centrosymmetric crystal configuration.
This self-oscillation results in a time-periodic potential analogous to that describing the transport of electrons in topological tight-binding models.

We study the electron's dynamics in two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in the presence of an inhomogeneous magnetic field applied to the perpendicular plane.
Applying the Bohr--Sommerfeld and the Einstein--Brillouin-Keller semiclassical quantization methods we obtain the energy levels for different magnetic field strengths.
We show that the semiclassical results are in good agreement with those found from our quantum calculations.

We propose an interpretative framework for quantum mechanics corresponding to the specifications of Louis de Broglie's double-solution theory.
The principle is to decompose the evolution of a quantum system into two wave functions.
For Schr"odinger, the particles are extended and the square of the module of the (internal) wave function of an electron corresponds to the density of its charge in space.
