- Abstract: Many security proofs for quantum key distribution (QKD) require Bob's measurement to have a tensor-product structure across protocol rounds, with some techniques requiring the stronger independent-and-identically-distributed (IID) condition. Time-bin encoded protocols often rely on interferometers whose detector outcomes depend on the interference between optical modes from neighbouring rounds, obstructing the direct application of such proofs. We show that classical post-processing of Bob's measurement data --- specifically, discarding the outcomes of detectors sensitive to inter-round coherence --- is sufficient to recover a product measurement positive operator-valued measure (POVM) (which is IID when the same single-round setup is used in every round). Applied to the Mach-Zehnder interferometer and the IID variant of the COW detection setup, this removes the need for the additional vacuum pulse introduced in prior analyses to establish tensor product structure of the measurement POVM, recovering better key rates without placing any restriction on Eve's attack.

One of the main challenges in device-independent quantum key distribution (DIQKD) is achieving the required Bell violation over long distances.
Recent works have explored the concept of certifying nonlocal correlations over extended distances through the use of a local Bell test.
Here, an additional quantum device is placed in close proximity to one party, using short-distance correlations to verify nonlocal behavior at long distances.

quantum key distribution [1.0499611180329804]
A trusted device scenario assumes that an adversary has no access to imperfections such as electronic noises in the detector is expected to provide significant improvement in the key rate.
Here, we develop a simple and general treatment that can incorporate the effects of Gaussian trusted noises for any protocol that uses homodyne/heterodyne measurements.
In our method, a rescaling of the outcome of a noisy homodyne/heterodyne detector renders it equivalent to the outcome of a noiseless detector with a tiny additional loss.
