- Abstract: The Hong-Ou-Mandel effect provides a mechanism to determine the
distinguishability of a photon pair by measuring the bunching rates of two
photons interfering at a beam splitter. Of particular interest is the
distinguishability in time, which can be used to probe a time delay. Photon
detectors themselves give some timing information, however--while that
resolution may dwarf that of an interferometric technique--typical analyses
reduce the interference to a binary event, neglecting temporal information in
the detector. By modelling detectors with number and temporal resolution we
demonstrate a greater precision than coincidence rates or temporal data alone
afford. Moreover, the additional information can allow simultaneous estimation
of a time delay alongside calibration parameters, opening up the possibility of
calibration-free protocols and approaching the precision of the quantum
Cram\'er-Rao bound.

two-photon interference [39.92796076061428]
Two-photon interference is an indispensable resource in quantum photonics, but it is not straightforward to achieve.
The cascaded generation of photon pairs contains intrinsic temporal correlations that negatively affect the ability of such sources to perform two-photon interference.
We report on how such correlation interplays with decoherence and temporal postselection, and under which conditions temporal postselection could improve two-photon interference visibility.

Our sensing scheme relies on spectral interference achieved via phase modulation, followed by filtering and biphoton coincidence measurements.
Our experiments demonstrate a precision of +/-0.04 ps in measurements of nonlocal delay changes and +/-0.7deg in measurements of radio-frequency phase changes.

Photon exchange-phase and degree of distinguishability have not been widely utilized in quantum-enhanced applications.
We show that even at low degree entanglement, when a two-photon wave-function is coupled to matter, it is encoded with a reliable "which pathway?" information.
We find that quantum-light interferometry facilitates utterly different set of time-delay variables, which are unbound by uncertainty to the inverse bandwidth of the wave-packet.
