- Abstract summary: Two-photon interference is an indispensable resource in quantum photonics, but it is not straightforward to achieve.
The cascaded generation of photon pairs contains intrinsic temporal correlations that negatively affect the ability of such sources to perform two-photon interference.
We report on how such correlation interplays with decoherence and temporal postselection, and under which conditions temporal postselection could improve two-photon interference visibility.

- Abstract: Two-photon interference is an indispensable resource in quantum photonics,
but it is not straightforward to achieve. The cascaded generation of photon
pairs contains intrinsic temporal correlations that negatively affect the
ability of such sources to perform two-photon interference, thus hindering
applications. We report on how such correlation interplays with decoherence and
temporal postselection, and under which conditions temporal postselection could
improve two-photon interference visibility. Our study identifies crucial
parameters and points the way to a source with optimal performance.

Two-photon (second order) intensity correlation is known to be impossible to achieve by any classical means.
We present coherence manipulations of attenuated laser light to achieve such a quantum feature using pure coherence optics.
To excite the coherence quantum features between paired coherent photons, a selective measurement process plays an essential role.

We introduce the advantage of using not only time correlations but also polarization correlations in photon pairs in the detection of an object embedded in a noisy background.
We found that the joint measurement of correlated pairs allows distinguishing the signal from the noise photons and that leads to an improved signal-to-noise ratio.

Quantum asymmetry is a physical resource which coincides with the amount of coherence between the eigenspaces of a generator.
We show that the asymmetry may emphincrease as a result of a emphdecrease of coherence inside a degenerate subspace.

Photon exchange-phase and degree of distinguishability have not been widely utilized in quantum-enhanced applications.
We show that even at low degree entanglement, when a two-photon wave-function is coupled to matter, it is encoded with a reliable "which pathway?" information.
We find that quantum-light interferometry facilitates utterly different set of time-delay variables, which are unbound by uncertainty to the inverse bandwidth of the wave-packet.
