- Abstract: We examine different methods to implement coherent detection in the
subcarrier wave quantum key distribution (SCW QKD) systems. For classical
wavefields, we present the models describing homodyne-type and heterodyne-type
coherent detection schemes needed to extract information from the quadrature
phase-coded multimode signals used in SCW QKD. Practical feasibility of the
proposed schemes is corroborated by the experiments.

In multimode optical systems, the spectral covariance matrix encodes all the information about quantum correlations between the quadratures of Gaussian states.
Recent research has revealed that, in scenarios that are more common than previously thought, part of these correlations remain inaccessible to standard homodyne detection scheme.

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (QKD) employs the quadratures of a bosonic mode to establish a secret key between two remote parties.
We consider a protocol with homodyne detection in the general setting of composable finite-size security.
In particular, we analyze the high signal-to-noise regime which requires the use of high-rate (non-binary) low-density parity check codes.
