- Title: Quantum photocell based on GaN quantum dots
- Authors: Abhishek Chakraborty and Vishvendra Singh Poonia
- Abstract summary: We exploit the strong built-in electric field in GaN QDs and excitonic dipole-dipole coupling between adjacent QDs to break detailed balance.
This is a much stronger effect than Fano interference, and we show that such a photocell exhibits enhanced photo-voltage and photocurrent over its conventional counterpart.

- Abstract: In this work, we propose an efficient photocell based on GaN quantum dots. We
exploit the strong built-in electric field in GaN QDs and excitonic
dipole-dipole coupling between adjacent QDs to break detailed balance. This is
a much stronger effect than Fano interference, and we show that such a
photocell exhibits enhanced photo-voltage and photocurrent over its
conventional counterpart. The proposed quantum photocell could be the first
step towards harnessing quantum effects in practical energy harvesting devices.

We propose a new approach to realize the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian using low energy free-electrons coupled to dielectric microcavities.
Our approach utilizes quantum recoil, which causes a large detuning that inhibits the emission of multiple consecutive photons.
We show that this approach can be used for generation of single photons with unity efficiency and high fidelity.
