- Abstract: Interest in developing and deploying E-commerce systems has grown greatly
over the past few years, leading to a major shortage of qualified developers.
This paper describes the development of a graduate course in E-commerce
education that has been implemented as part of an Honours degree programme and
a first year Masters offering for a traditional Information Systems programme.
The aim of this course is to give graduate students a broad grounding and
holistic set of skills to enable them to begin successful E-commerce systems
development. This paper provides a background and context for this course, an
overview and discussion of the course content, delivery methods and practical
focus, and discusses experience in running and evolving the course over the
past two years. We hope that our experiences and approaches will be useful for
others who are planning similar courses focusing on E-commerce systems
engineering.
