- Abstract summary: We study the interplay between non-Hermitian dynamics and phase synchronization in a system of $mathcalN$ bosonic modes coupled to an auxiliary mode.
We provide analytical and numerical solutions for systems ranging from a few modes to the macroscopic limit of large $mathcalN$ in the presence of inhomogeneous frequency broadening.

- Abstract: We study the interplay between non-Hermitian dynamics and phase
synchronization in a system of $\mathcal{N}$ bosonic modes coupled to an
auxiliary mode. The linearity of the evolution in such a system allows for the
derivation of fully analytical results for synchronization conditions. In
contrast, analysis at the level of phase dynamics, followed by a transformation
to a collective basis allows a complete reduction to an all-to-all coupled
Kuramoto model with known analytical solutions. We provide analytical and
numerical solutions for systems ranging from a few modes to the macroscopic
limit of large $\mathcal{N}$ in the presence of inhomogeneous frequency
broadening and test the robustness of phase synchronization under the action of
external noise.

We report on the switching dynamics of both single and coupled VO2-based oscillators, with resistive and capacitive coupling, and explore the capability of their application in neural networks.
For the resistive coupling, it is shown that synchronization takes place at a certain value of the coupling resistance, though it is unstable and a synchronization failure occurs periodically.
For the capacitive coupling, two synchronization modes, with weak and strong coupling, are found. The transition between these modes is accompanied by chaotic oscillations.
