- Abstract: The effects of reflecting boundaries on vacuum electric field fluctuations
are treated. The presence of the boundaries can enhance these fluctuations and
possibly lead to observable effects. The electric field fluctuations lead to
voltage fluctuations along the worldline of a charged particle moving
perpendicularly to a pair of reflecting plates, These voltage fluctuations in
turn lead to fluctuations in the kinetic energy of the particle, which may
enhance the probability of quantum barrier penetration by the particle. A
recent experiment by Moddel {\it et al} is discussed as a possible example of
this enhanced barrier penetration probability.

Quasiparticles are emergent excitations of matter that underlie much of our understanding of quantum many-body systems.
We take advantage of the clean setting of homogeneous quantum gases and fast radio-frequency control to manipulate Fermi polarons.
We measure the decay rate and the quasiparticle residue of the driven polaron from the Rabi oscillations between the two internal states.

We theoretically study the partition and collision of two interacting hot electrons at a potential barrier in the quantum Hall regime.
We predict their kinetic energy change by their Coulomb interaction during the scattering delay time inside the barrier.
The energy change results in characteristic deviation of the partition probabilities from the noninteracting case.

We introduce a new technique to model and eliminate dipole moment interactions limiting the performance of sensors employing levitated objects.
As a demonstration, this is applied to the search for unknown charges of a magnitude much below that of an electron.
As a by-product of the technique, the electromagnetic properties of the levitated objects can also be measured on an individual basis.

We show that an isotropic dipolar particle in the vicinity of a substrate made of nonreciprocal plasmonic materials can experience a lateral Casimir force and torque.
We connect the existence of the lateral force to the asymmetric dispersion of nonreciprocal surface polaritons and the existence of the lateral torque to the spin-momentum locking of such surface waves.
