- Abstract: The analytical expression for shortcuts to adiabaticity for any switching
time and any thermally isolated system performing a finite-time and weak
process is presented. It is based on the universal solution of the optimal
protocols of weak processes, where the extension to adiabatic processes was
made by means of the concept of waiting time. Two examples are solved to verify
the validity of such shortcuts: the typical case of oscillatory relaxation
function and the transverse-field quantum Ising chain. In the end, a discussion
about the limitations of the applicability of these shortcuts in quantum
annealing is made.

We find that, for systems without an explicit time-dependence, our approach reproduces the picture of an instanton-like solution defined on a finite Euclidean-time interval.

I propose here that such contrasting difference occurs due to the manner by which one measures the excitation spent energy of the system.

adiabatic passage [0.0]
Adiabatic passage employs a slowly varying time-dependent Hamiltonian to control the evolution of a quantum system along the Hamiltonian eigenstates.
For processes of finite duration, the exact time evolving state may deviate from the adiabatic eigenstate at intermediate times.
In numerous applications it is observed that this deviation reaches a maximum and then decreases significantly towards the end of the process.
