- Abstract: This chapter argues that the general philosophy of science should learn
metaphilosophical lessons from the case of metaphysical underdetermination, as
it occurs in non-relativistic quantum mechanics. Section 2 presents the
traditional discussion of metaphysical underdetermination regarding the
individuality and non-individuality of quantum particles. Section 3 discusses
three reactions to it found in the literature: eliminativism about
individuality; conservatism about individuality; eliminativism about objects.
Section 4 wraps it all up with metametaphysical considerations regarding the
epistemology of metaphysics of science.

We argue that a fictionalist approach to metaphysics is compatible with both the idea that the discipline inquires into the fundamental features of reality and naturalistic methodology.
We will claim that a fictionalist approach to metaphysics is compatible with both the idea that the discipline inquires into the fundamental features of reality and naturalistic methodology.

Mixed Weyl symbol is used to describe brain processes at the microscopic level.
Electromagnetic fields and phonon modes involved in the processes are treated either classically or semi-classically.
Zero-point quantum effects can be incorporated into numerical simulations by controlling the temperature of each field mode.

We argue that, in this perspective, metaphysics must be understood as an autonomous discipline.
One of the main motivations of such project is the obtaining of a scientifically respectable justification for the attribution of a single true metaphysical profile to the posits of a scientific theory.

Three notions are often assumed to be essentially equivalent, representing different facets of the same phenomenon.
We analyze them in general Friedmann-Lemaitre- Robertson-Walker space-times through the lens of geometric structures on the classical phase space.
The analysis shows that: (i) inflation does not play an essential role; classical behavior can emerge much more generally; (ii) the three notions are conceptually distinct; classicality can emerge in one sense but not in another.
