- Abstract: This scoping review explores the ethical challenges of using ChatGPT in higher education. By reviewing recent academic articles in English, Chinese, and Japanese, we aimed to provide a deep dive review and identify gaps in the literature. Drawing on Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) scoping review framework, we defined search terms and identified relevant publications from four databases in the three target languages. The research results showed that the majority of the papers were discussion papers, but there was some early empirical work. The ethical issues highlighted in these works mainly concern academic integrity, assessment issues, and data protection. Given the rapid deployment of generative artificial intelligence, it is imperative for educators to conduct more empirical studies to develop sound ethical policies for its use.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) models, such as ChatGPT, may inherit or amplify societal biases due to their training on extensive datasets.
With the increasing usage of GAI by students, faculty, and staff in higher education institutions (HEIs), it is urgent to examine the ethical issues and potential biases associated with these technologies.
This scoping review aims to elucidate how biases related to GAI in HEIs have been researched and discussed in recent academic publications.

We propose the task of scientific opinion summarization, where research paper reviews are synthesized into meta-reviews.
We introduce the ORSUM dataset covering 15,062 paper meta-reviews and 57,536 paper reviews from 47 conferences.
Our experiments show that (1) human-written summaries do not always satisfy all necessary criteria such as depth of discussion, and identifying consensus and controversy for the specific domain, and (2) the combination of task decomposition and iterative self-refinement shows strong potential for enhancing the opinions.

Ethical aspects of research in language technologies have received much attention recently.
It is a standard practice to get a study involving human subjects reviewed and approved by a professional ethics committee/board of the institution.
With the rising concerns and discourse around the ethics of NLP, do we also observe a rise in formal ethical reviews of NLP studies?

research: A scoping review [1.933681537640272]
This chapter presents a scoping review of published scientific studies that utilise both citizen scientists and Internet of Things devices.
We selected studies where the authors had included at least a short discussion of the ethical issues encountered during the research process.
Following this analysis, our discussion provides recommendations for researchers who wish to integrate citizen scientists and Internet of Things devices into their research.
