- Abstract summary: We study space-time resolved densities of particle-hole pairs produced by an external time-dependent field acting on non-interacting non-relativistic particles.
It is shown that, at least in some cases, the densities are not affected by Fermi-Dirac or Bose- Einstein statistics, and are determined only by the initial state of the multi-particle system.

- Abstract: We study space-time resolved densities of particle-hole pairs produced by an external time-dependent field acting on non-interacting non-relativistic particles. It is shown that, at least in some cases, the densities are not affected by Fermi-Dirac or Bose- Einstein statistics, and are determined only by the initial state of the multi-particle system. The second quantisation technique is extended to Dirac electrons and, with some modifications, to Klein-Gordon bosons. The difference in pair production in these two relativistic cases is analysed in some detail.

To shed light on their differences, a pair production under a potential step assisted by a weak and oscillating electric field is discussed.
It is shown that the potential step and the oscillating field, each insufficient for vacuum decay, can produce pairs when combined.

We take advantage of the clean setting of homogeneous quantum gases and fast radio-frequency control to manipulate Fermi polarons.
We measure the decay rate and the quasiparticle residue of the driven polaron from the Rabi oscillations between the two internal states.
