- Abstract: Providing computer science (CS) offerings in the K-12 education system is often limited by the lack of experienced teachers, especially in small or rural underserved school districts. By helping teachers in underserved areas develop CS curriculum and helping them become certified to teach CS courses, more young people in underserved areas are aware of IT-career opportunities, and prepared for CS education at the university level, which ultimately helps tackle the IT workforce deficit in the United States. This paper discusses a successful implementation of a Google CS4HS grant to a rural underserved area, as well as lessons learned through the implementation of the program. Key elements in the implementation included a face-to-face hands-on workshop, followed by a seven week graduate-level online summer course for the teachers to learn and develop curriculum that covers the CS concepts they will be teaching. The teachers were supported with an online community of practice for the year as they implemented the curriculum.

collective intelligence exposure in emergency remote learning due to COVID 19 [105.54048699217668]
During the COVID-19 crisis, educational institutions worldwide shifted from face-to-face instruction to emergency remote teaching (ERT) modalities.
We analyzed data on 7,528 undergraduate students and found that cooperative and consensus dynamics among students in discussion forums positively affect their final GPA.
Using natural language processing, we show that first-year students with low academic performance during high school are exposed to more content-intensive posts in discussion forums.

Programming in Primary Schools [13.453052164371734]
computational thinking in school curricula requires teachers to introduce children to programming already at primary school level.
As this is a recent development, primary school teachers may neither be adequately prepared for how to best teach programming, nor may they be fully aware why they have to do so.
By surveying 200 teachers who have taught programming at primary schools and 97 teachers in training, we identify relevant challenges when teaching programming, opportunities that arise when children learn programming, and strategies how to address both of these in practice.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)-Jockey Club AI for the Future Project (AI4Future) co-created an AI curriculum for pre-tertiary education.
A team of 14 professors with expertise in engineering and education collaborated with 17 principals and teachers from 6 secondary schools to co-create the curriculum.
The co-creation process generated a variety of resources which enhanced the teachers knowledge in AI, as well as fostered teachers autonomy in bringing the subject matter into their classrooms.
