- Abstract: The development of ideal sources is a fundamental challenge for the practical implementation of integrated photonic technologies for quantum applications. In this paper we analyse the state-of-the-art in heralded single photon sources; pointing out inconsistencies in the how key parameters, such as brightness and heralding efficiency, are characterised. We then suggest considerations that could be made to facilitate fairer comparison between literature results.

We present a parameter-decoupled superresolution framework for estimating sub-wavelength separations of passive two-point sources.
Our theoretical foundation circumvents the need to estimate multiple challenging parameters such as partial coherence, brightness imbalance, random relative phase, and photon statistics.

Multiphoton indistinguishability is a central resource for quantum enhancement in sensing and computation.
We propose a set of methods for the characterization of multiphoton indistinguishability, based on measurements of bunching and photon number variance.
Our methods are robust in a semi-device independent way, in the sense of being effective even when the interferometers are incorrectly dialled.
