- Abstract: This essay reviews a modern understanding of a quantum measurement. Rather than reducing the picture to the observer's experience with quantum system, we try to put it in the context of a broader physical picture. We also attempt to distinguish some basic components and stages of a generic measurement. In this way, we want to understand which aspects of quantum measurements are important to mainstream interpretations of quantum mechanics.

It starts by asking whether quantum physics is important, or weird, or incomprehensible.
It explains why particles sometimes behave like waves, and how uncertainty and randomness enter physics.

We explain how the so-called Einstein locality is to be understood in the Schr"odinger picture of quantum mechanics.
Contrary to some beliefs that quantum mechanics is incomplete, it is, in fact, its overcompleteness as exemplified by different pictures of quantum physics, that points to the same underlying reality.

In the original thought experiment of the Quantum Cheshire Cat, the physical properties of the cat (state) can be decoupled from its quantum entities.
Here, we conceive a new thought experiment that exploits quantum entanglement with weak (value) measurement.

Two particles are identical if all their intrinsic properties, such as spin and charge, are the same.
Quantum mechanics is seen as a normative and algorithmic theory guiding an agent to assess her subjective beliefs represented as (coherent) sets of gambles.
We show how sets of exchangeable observables (gambles) may be updated after a measurement and discuss the issue of defining entanglement for indistinguishable particle systems.

A key element that lies at the center of this problem is the lack of a clear understanding and characterization of macroscopic quantum states.
We start from coherence as the key quantity that captures the notion of quantumness.
We construct a measure that quantifies how global and collective the coherence of the state is.
