- Abstract: The spontaneous disentanglement hypothesis is motivated by some outstanding issues in standard quantum mechanics, including the problem of quantum measurement. The current study compares between some possible methods that can be used to implement the hypothesis. Disentanglement is formulated using a nonlinear operator, which can be used to modify both the Schrödinger equation for the quantum state vector, and the master equation for the density operator. Two types of nonlinear disentanglement operators are explored. The first one gives rise to matrix deranking, and the second one to correlation suppression. Both types are demonstrated using a two spin system that is driven close to the Hartmann--Hahn double resonance. It is shown that limit cycle steady state solutions, which are excluded by standard quantum mechanics, become possible in the presence of disentanglement.

We compute the tunneling action in this double scaling limit, and compare it to the transition amplitude from the vacuum to a highly excited state.
Our results, exact in the semiclassical limit, show that the two expressions coincide, apart from an irreducible and surprising instanton contribution.

The free expansion of a Gaussian wavepacket is a problem commonly discussed in undergraduate quantum classes.
We provide an alternative way to calculate the free expansion by recognizing that the Gaussian wavepacket can be thought of as the ground state of a harmonic oscillator.

We reformulate the technique of third quantization in a way that explicitly connects all three methods.
We first show that our formulation reveals a fundamental dissipative symmetry present in all quadratic bosonic or fermionic Lindbladians.
For bosons, we then show that the Wigner function and the characteristic function can be thought of as ''wavefunctions'' of the density matrix.
