- Abstract: We demonstrate that spin-orbit coupled states are generated in neutral
magnetic spin 1/2 particles travelling through an electric field. The
quantization axis of the orbital angular momentum is parallel to the electric
field, hence both longitudinal and transverse orbital angular momentum can be
created. Furthermore we show that the total angular momentum of the particle is
conserved. Finally we propose a neutron optical experiment to measure the
transverse effect.

- Understanding the puzzle of angular momentum conservation in beta decay and related processes [0.0]
We ask the question of how angular momentum is conserved in electroweak interaction processes.
We consider inverse beta decay in which an electron is emitted following the capture of a neutrino on a nucleus.
While both the incident neutrino and final electron spins are antiparallel to their momenta, the final spin is in a different direction than that of the neutrino.
We generalize the discussion to massive neutrinos and electrons, and examine nuclear beta decay and electron-positron annihilation processes through the same lens.

We consider a weakly relativistic charged particle with an arbitrary spin in central potential $e/r$ in terms of classical mechanics.
We show that the spin-orbital interaction causes the precession of the plane of orbit around the vector of total angular momentum.
The effective potential for in-plane motion is central, with the corrections to Coulomb terms coming from spin-orbital interaction.

We study the motion-induced radiation due to the non-relativistic motion of an atom in the presence of a static graphene plate.
We show that the effect of the plate is to increase the probability of emission when the atom is near the plate and oscillates along a direction perpendicular to it.

We consider the dynamics of a spin-1/2 particle constrained to move in an arbitrary space curve with an external electric and magnetic field applied.
With the aid of gauge theory, we successfully decouple the tangential and normal dynamics and derive the effective Hamiltonian.

When a dyon encircles an infinitely-long enclosing uniform electric and magnetic fields, its wave function accumulates a duality-invariant quantum phase.
We show how its duality symmetry unifies the Aharonov-Bohm phase with its dual phase.
We argue that a spin 1/2 dyon has electric and magnetic moments, the former being greater than the latter because of the Schwinger-Zwanziger quantisation condition.
