- Abstract: Trapped atomic ensembles are convenient systems for quantum information
storage in the long-lived sublevels of the electronic ground state and its
conversion to propagating optical photons via stimulated Raman processes. Here
we investigate a phase-matched emission of photons from a coherently prepared
atomic ensemble. We consider an ensemble of cold atoms in an elongated harmonic
trap with normal density distribution, and determine the parameters of paraxial
optics to match the mode geometry of the emitted radiation and optimally
collect it into an optical waveguide.

We consider an ensemble of Alkali atoms that are continuously optically pumped and probed.
Due to the collective scattering of photons at large optical depth, the steady state of atoms does not correspond to an uncorrelated tensor-product state.
We find and characterize regimes of Raman lasing, akin to the model of a superradiant laser.

Entanglement between atoms, generated by the exchange of virtual photons through a common cavity mode, grows exponentially fast.

Our proposal can open unique opportunities for the observation of continuous variable entanglement in atomic systems and associated applications in next-generation optical atomic clocks.

Stimulated Raman scattering of atoms with $Lambda$-configuration of levels is a promising tool for transducing microwave photons to optical photons.
We consider an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate whose large phase-space density highly amplifies the coupling to the microwave field.
We determine the optimal conditions for the emitted optical photons to be collected into the guided modes of optical fibers.
