- Abstract: The most discussed of ``live'' metaphors in physical sciences is that of the
Schr\"odinger cat. Introduced in the early, but mature days of the new quantum
theory, in 1935, the parable of the cat has provoked and enlivened debates on
the meaning of the quantum theory, on the ontology of the quantum wavefunction,
on the puzzle of the collapse of the wavefunction, on the meaning of quantum
measurement, and on the boundary between the quantum world and the classical
world. In this article, I will discuss these issues of the quantum theory
focussing on various aspects of the metaphor of the Schr\"odinger cat.

We explore the interplay between quantum nonreciprocity and topology in a one-dimensional microcavity array.
We obtain the Schr"odinger cat state in a chosen direction at the edge cavity, whereas a it classical state in the other direction.
The obtained cat state has nonreciprocal high fidelity, nonclassicality, and quantum coherence.

De Regt's contextual theory of understanding argues that recognizing qualitatively characteristic consequences of a theory T without performing exact calculations is a criterion for scientific understanding.
If the task of understanding quantum mechanics has been finished already, there would be a conflict between the contextual theory of understanding of quantum mechanics and interpretations of quantum mechanics.

In the original thought experiment of the Quantum Cheshire Cat, the physical properties of the cat (state) can be decoupled from its quantum entities.
Here, we conceive a new thought experiment that exploits quantum entanglement with weak (value) measurement.

It is argued that the Schr"odinger equation does not yield a correct description of the quantum-mechanical time evolution of states of isolated (open) systems featuring events.
