- Title: Response to a comment on "Vindication of entanglement-based witnesses in
hybrid quantum systems"
- Authors: Chiara Marletto and Emanuele Marconato
- Abstract summary: In a recent paper, we vindicated a general entanglement-based witness of non-classicality in hybrid quantum systems.
Hall and Reginatto recently commented, claiming to expose "a huge number of errors and misconceptions" in it.
But their comment contains no refutation of our arguments, nor does it expose any error or misconception in them.

- Abstract: In a recent paper, we vindicated a general entanglement-based witness of
non-classicality in hybrid quantum systems. Our vindication refutes a
counterexample to the witness, proposed by Hall and Reginatto. These authors
recently commented further, claiming to expose "a huge number of errors and
misconceptions" in it. However, their comment contains no refutation of our
arguments, nor does it expose any error or misconception in them. But it does
include a number of misconceptions about the witness of non-classicality. Here
we respond to those.

Quantum theory in conventional formulation is notoriously subject to various measurement-related paradoxes.
Inconsistencies concerning the outcomes of measurements can be revealed among observers.
implications for the debate concerning the viability of quantum theory in its various formulations are discussed.

Wigner's friend thought experiment was intended to illustrate the difficulty one has in describing an agent as a quantum system.
We show that all of the arguments hinge on assumptions about correlations between measurement outcomes that are not accessible to any observer.
Although some of these assumptions are not entirely well-motivated, all of the arguments do shed light on the nature of quantum theory.

essence of quantum theory' " [0.0]
We argue that the phenomenology of interference that is traditionally regarded as problematic does not, in fact, capture the essence of quantum theory.
It does so by demonstrating the existence of a physical theory, which we term the "toy field theory", that reproduces this phenomenology but which does not sacrifice the classical worldview.

We show that these subquestions can help identify relevant evidence to fact-check the full claim and derive the veracity through their answers.

A general entanglement-based witness of non-classicality has been proposed, which can be applied to testing quantum effects in gravity.
In this paper we provide a "temporal" variant of this witness, using a single quantum probe to assess the non-classicality of the mediator.

hybrid systems [0.0]
Vedral and one of us proposed an entanglement-based witness of non-classicality in systems that need not obey quantum theory.
Hall and Reginatto claimed that there are classical systems that can entangle two quantum systems, thus violating our proposed witness.
Here we refute that claim, explaining that the counterexample proposed by Hall and Reginatto in fact validates the witness.

We propose a natural definition of unforgeability against quantum adversaries called blind unforgeability.
This notion defines a function to be predictable if there exists an adversary who can use "partially blinded" access to predict values.
We show the suitability of blind unforgeability for supporting canonical constructions and reductions.
