- Abstract: As repeatedly emphasized by Einstein our knowledge of the structure of space
and time is based entirely on inferences from observations of physical objects
and processes. At the most fundamental level these objects and processes are
described by quantum theory. However, the ontological status of the theoretical
entities employed by quantum theory is a matter of considerable debate.
Furthermore, the nonlocal correlations identified by Bell cannot readily be
explained within the standard relativistic framework. This suggests that we
should re-examine our understanding of spacetime.

We derive no-go theorems for quantum experiments realisable in classical background spacetimes.
Our first theorem implies that realisations of ICO processes that do not violate relativistic causality must involve the non-localization of systems in spacetime.
The second theorem shows that for any such realisation of an ICO process, there exists a more fine-grained description in terms of a definite and acyclic causal order process.

A Planck scale inflationary era produces the scale invariant spectrum of inhomogeneities with very small tensor-to-scalar ratio of perturbations.

We look into the ontology of quantum theory as distinct from that of the classical theory in the sciences.
Within this framework, theories are conceptual constructs applying to models generated in the phenomenal world within limited contexts.

We show a theorem stating that spacetime degrees of freedom and a quantum system violate a Bell inequality in a background Minkowski spacetime.
We argue that this implies that spacetime cannot be sensibly called classical if the assumptions in our theorem hold.

The implications of the relativistic space-time structure for a physical description by quantum mechanical wave-functions are investigated.
An analysis of the wave-function alone does not suffice to answer the question of relativistic compatibility of the theory.
The actual events in space time, which are predicted and described by the theory, are crucial.

Here, we reveal that the quantum Hall phase with topological edge states, spectral Landau levels and Hofstadter butterfly can emerge in a simple quantum system.
Such systems, arrays of two-level atoms (qubits) coupled to light being described by the classical Dicke model, have recently been realized in experiments with cold atoms and superconducting qubits.
