- Abstract: We present a heuristic mathematical model of the relation between the
geometry of a photonic crystal waveguide and the Purcell enhancement factor at
a particular wavelength of interest. We use this model to propose approaches to
the design of a photonic crystal waveguide maximizing the Purcell enhancement
at a target wavelength. Numerical simulations indicate that the proposed
structures exhibit robustness to fabrication defects introduced into photonic
crystal geometry.

Photonic integrated optical components, notably straight waveguides, serve as pivotal elements for on-chip generation and manipulation of quantum states of light.
We focus on optimizing waveguides based on lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) to generate photon pairs at telecom wavelength using spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC)
Specifically, we investigate lateral leakage for all possible SPDC processes involving type 0, type I and type II phase matching conditions in an X-cut lithium niobate waveguide.

Spontaneous emission is a fundamental out-of-equilibrium process in which an excited quantum emitter relaxes to the ground state due to quantum fluctuations.
One way to modify these photon-mediated interactions is to alter the dipole radiation patterns of the emitter, e.g., by placing photonic crystals near them.
Our study delves into the interaction between these directional emission patterns and the aforementioned variables, revealing the untapped potential to fine-tune collective quantum optical phenomena.

We demonstrate numerically and analytically how the emission directionality and photon-photon correlations can be controlled by the phases of the modulation.
