- Abstract: Most of the existing proposals for laboratory tests of a quantum nature of
gravity are based on the use of two delocalized masses or harmonically bound
masses prepared in pure quantum states with large enough spatial extent. Here a
setup is proposed that is based on a single delocalized mass coupled to a
harmonically trapped test mass (undergoing first expansion and then
compression) that moves under the action of gravity. We investigate the
in-principle feasibility of such an experiment, which turns out to crucially
depend on the ability to tame Casimir-Polder forces. We thus proceed with a
design aimed at achieving this, trying at the same time to take advantage of
these forces rather than only fighting them.

Experimental proposals for testing quantum gravity-induced entanglement of masses (QGEM) typically involve two interacting masses which are each in a spatial superposition state.
Here, we propose a QGEM experiment with two particles which are each in a superposition of rotational states, this amounts to a superposition of mass through mass-energy equivalence.

It is now widely believed that if the gravitational field is (perturbatively) quantum, it would entangle two massive objects.
In this essay, we prove that such gravity-induced entanglement depends on the spacetime curvature and can, in principle, act as an alternate signature of the expanding background.
This will open up new and complementary directions to search for such entanglement in curved spacetime and reveal fresh perspectives on it.

In a known gedanken experiment, a delocalized mass is recombined while the gravitational field sourced by it is probed by another (distant) particle.
Here, we focus on the delocalized particle and explore the conditions (in terms of mass, separation, and recombination time) for graviton emission.

Quantum aspects of gravity, such as massive gravitons, can emerge in experiments with fractional quantum Hall liquids.
We employ (2+1)-dimensional Dirac fermions, emerging in the continuous limit of a fermionic honeycomb lattice, coupled to massive gravitons, simulated by bosonic modes.
The similarity of our approach to current optical lattice configurations suggests that quantum signatures of gravity can be simulated in the laboratory in the near future.
