- Abstract: In this paper, we consider an open quantum system undergoing imperfect and
indirect measurement. For quantum non-demolition (QND) measurement, we show
that the system evolves on an appropriately chosen manifold and we express the
exact solution of the quantum filter equation in terms of the solution of a
lower dimensional stochastic differential equation. In order to further reduce
the dimension of the system under study, we consider the projection on the
lower dimensional manifold originally introduced in [1] for the case of perfect
measurements. An error analysis is performed to evaluate the precision of this
approximate quantum filter, focusing on the case of QND measurement.
Simulations suggest the efficiency of the proposed quantum projection filter,
even in presence of a stabilizing feedback control which depends on the
projection filter.

Note draws attention to the observation that, in several settings of interest for quantum engineering, this diffusion in fact takes place in low dimension.
Namely, the state remains confined in a low-dimensional nonlinear manifold, often time-dependent, but independent of the measurement results.

A typical challenge in practical problems modeled by reaction networks (SRNs) is that only a few state variables can be dynamically observed.
We propose to use a dimensionality reduction technique based on the Markovian projection (MP), initially introduced for forward problems.
The novel method employs a reduced-variance particle filter for estimating the jump intensities of the projected model and solves the filtering equations in a low-dimensional space.

In many applications only part of the information contained in the filter's state is actually needed to reconstruct the target observable quantities.
We propose a systematic method to find, when possible, reduced-order quantum filters that are capable of exactly reproducing the evolution of expectation values of interest.

"Wasserstein Quantum Monte Carlo" (WQMC) uses the gradient flow induced by the Wasserstein metric, rather than Fisher-Rao metric, and corresponds to transporting the probability mass, rather than teleporting it.
We demonstrate empirically that the dynamics of WQMC results in faster convergence to the ground state of molecular systems.
