- Abstract: We develop a novel interferometric technique to measure small angular and lateral displacements of an optical beam. The technique relies on the metrological performance of the Hermite-Gaussian $HG_{m,0}$ spatial modes. We report an improvement factor of $41$ in the signal-to-noise ratio, as compared to the Gaussian mode, using modes as high as $m=20$. This considerably enhances the sensitivity of such measurements and attests its efficiency.

Multimode squeezed light is an increasingly popular tool in photonic quantum technologies.
Here, we demonstrate experimentally how the squeezing can be measured in multiple spatial modes simultaneously.
We obtain highest squeezing and anti-squeezing values of $-5.2 pm 0.2$ dB and $8.6 pm 0.3$ dB, respectively.

Several terrestrial detectors for gravitational waves and dark matter based on long-baseline atom interferometry are currently in the final planning stages or already under construction.
We show that resonant-mode detectors based on multi-diamond fountain gradiometers achieve the optimal, shot-noise limited, sensitivity if their height constitutes 20% of the available baseline.

interferometers [0.0]
We present a theoretical description of spatially multimode SU (1,1) interferometers operating at low and high parametric gains.
Our approach is based on a step-by-step solution of a system of integro-differential equations for each nonlinear interaction region.
We investigate plane-wave and Gaussian pumping and show that for any parametric gain, there exists a region of phases for which the phase sensitivity surpasses the standard shot-noise scaling.

Complex structure inherent in Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) states makes their detection and classification nontrivial.
Most of the current detection schemes are based on models of the OAM states built upon the use of Laguerre-Gauss modes.
We employ Hypergeometric-Gaussian modes as the basis states of a refined model that can be used -- in certain scenarios -- to better tailor OAM detection techniques.
