- Abstract summary: We propose a collision model to investigate the information dynamics of a system coupled to an environment with varying degrees of non-Markovianity.
We control the degree of non-Markovianity by applying a depolarising channel to a fixed and rigid reservoir of qubits.
We show how the system-environment coupling strength and the degree of non-Markovianity affect the process.

- Abstract: We propose a collision model to investigate the information dynamics of a system coupled to an environment with varying degrees of non-Markovianity. We control the degree of non-Markovianity by applying a depolarising channel to a fixed and rigid reservoir of qubits. We characterise the effect of the depolarising channel and apply the model to study the coherent transport of an excitation on a chain of three interacting qubits. We show how the system-environment coupling strength and the degree of non-Markovianity affect the process. Interestingly, in some cases a Markovian environment is preferable to enhance the coherent transport of the excitation.

We study the dynamics of a qubit system in contact with a thermal bath made up of few ancillas, in which system-ancilla and ancilla-ancilla interactions are considered.
Results clearly indicate that the information backflows decrease when new ancillas are added to the bath, which sheds light on the nature of the Markovian to non-Markovian transition.

We investigate the irreversible entropy production of a qubit in contact with an environment modelled by a microscopic collision model.
Our results suggest that the mechanism underpinning the negative entropy production rates is not solely non-Markovianity through information backflow.
