- Abstract: For the Fermi gas filling the space inside a cubic cavity of a fixed volume, at arbitrary temperatures and number of particles, the thermodynamic characteristics are calculated, namely: entropy, thermodynamic potential, energy, pressure, heat capacities and thermodynamic coefficients. The discrete structure of energy levels is taken into account and size effects at low temperatures are studied. The transition to the continual limit is considered.

Environments in quantum thermodynamics usually take the role of heat baths.
We show that within the same model, the environment can take three different thermodynamic roles.

We calculate correlation energy of paramagnetic three-dimensional homogeneous electron gas at intermediate to high density.
Ground state energies in finite cells are determined using Slater-Jastrow-backflow trial wave functions.
Our correlation energies in the thermodynamic limit are lower (i.e., more negative, and therefore more accurate according to the variational principle) than previous results.
