- Abstract: We study a quantum system that consists of two fermionic chains coupled by a driven quantum point contact (QPC). The QPC contains a bond with a periodically varying tunneling amplitude. Initially the left chain is packed with fermions while the right one is empty. We numerically track the evolution of the system and demonstrate that, at frequencies above a critical one, the current through the QPC halts, and the particle imbalance between the chains remains forever. This implies a spectacular breakdown of the Floquet version of the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis which predicts a homogeneous particle density profile at large times. We confirm the effect for various driving protocols and interparticle interactions.

A quantum simulation of magnetism in trapped-ion systems makes use of the crystal vibrations to mediate pairwise interactions between spins.
These interactions can be accounted for by a long-wavelength relativistic theory, where the phonons are described by a coarse-grained Klein-Gordon field.
We show that thermal effects, which can be controlled by laser cooling, can unveil this flow through the appearance of thermal masses in interacting QFTs.

probability after the Kibble-Zurek quench in the quantum Ising chain [0.0]
Linear quench of the transverse field drives the quantum Ising chain across a quantum critical point from the paramagnetic to the ferromagnetic phase.
We focus on normal and anomalous quadratic correlators between fermionic kink creation and operators.
Additional slowing down of the ramp in the ferromagnetic phase further increases the dephasing length and suppresses the anomalous correlator.

Quantum phase transitions (QPTs) are usually associated with many-body systems with large degrees of freedom approaching the thermodynamic limit.
It has been realized that a QPT can occur in a simple system composed of only a two-level atom and a single-mode bosonic field.
We report the first experimental demonstration of a QPT in the quantum Rabi model using a single trapped ion.
