- Abstract: We consider free scalar relativistic field theory in finite volume taken out-of-equilibrium and show how the chaotic behavior emerges in such a quantum system for particular quench protocols. Namely, we show that for the operator local quench, correlation functions exhibit statistical properties quite close to that of the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble of random matrices. Moreover, we show that the spectral form factor for the excited state after the local quench reveals a dip-ramp-plateau structure which also supports our conjecture. Finally, we show that the spectral form factor computed directly from the spectrum clearly demonstrates this structure as well.

and connections to phase-space and Keldysh field theory formulations [77.34726150561087]
We reformulate the technique of third quantization in a way that explicitly connects all three methods.
We first show that our formulation reveals a fundamental dissipative symmetry present in all quadratic bosonic or fermionic Lindbladians.
For bosons, we then show that the Wigner function and the characteristic function can be thought of as ''wavefunctions'' of the density matrix.
