- Abstract: Trions -- Coulomb-bound three-particle excitations composed of two like-charge carriers and one oppositely charged carrier -- are central quasiparticles in two-dimensional semiconductors. Reduced dielectric screening and quantum confinement strongly enhance their binding energies, making them robust and experimentally accessible. This review surveys theoretical and experimental advances in trion physics, emphasizing rigorous few-body approaches and the role of dielectric environment, anisotropy, and external electric and magnetic fields. We analyze computational methods for describing trions in two-dimensional configuration spaces and discuss how reduced dimensionality modifies their structure and stability. Connections to many-body phenomena, including screening, Landau-level mixing, and exciton--polaron crossover, are also highlighted.

Long-range interactions are a key resource in many quantum phenomena and technologies.
We show how to design the polaritonic bands of these atomic metamaterials to feature a pair of frequency-isolated Weyl points.
These Weyl excitations can thus mediate interactions that are simultaneously long-range, due to their gapless nature; robust, due to the topological protection of Weyl points; and decoherence-free, due to their subradiant character.

Quasiparticles are emergent excitations of matter that underlie much of our understanding of quantum many-body systems.
We take advantage of the clean setting of homogeneous quantum gases and fast radio-frequency control to manipulate Fermi polarons.
We measure the decay rate and the quasiparticle residue of the driven polaron from the Rabi oscillations between the two internal states.

resonators [0.0]
We present a microscopic quantum theory of light-matter interaction in pristine sheets of two-dimensional semiconductors coupled to localized electromagnetic resonators.
The light-matter interaction breaks the translation symmetry of excitons in the two-dimensional lattice, and we find that this symmetry-breaking interaction leads to the formation of a localized exciton state.
We quantify the influence of the environment and find that it is most pronounced for small lateral confinement length scales of the electromagnetic field in the resonator.
