- Abstract: We investigate the indistinguishability of Raman photons generated from two trapped $^{40}$Ca$^+$ ions using few-nanosecond excitation pulses. We elucidate how spontaneous scattering back to the initial state affects Hong-Ou-Mandel interference. We identify the mean number of back-decays as a measurable single-emitter quantity that correlates with achievable interference visibility of photons from two identical emitters.

We propose an interferometric setting through which N-particle interference can be observed, while any interference of lower orders is strictly suppressed.
We experimentally demonstrate this effect in a four-photon interferometer, where the interference is nonlocal, in principle.
A joint detection of all four photons identifies a high-visibility interference pattern varying as a function of their collective four-particle phase, a genuine four-body property.

We discuss two-photon correlations from the side peaks that are formed when a two-level system emitter is driven coherently.

We report the direct observation of a photon-number-dependent time delay in the scattering off a single semiconductor quantum dot coupled to an optical cavity.
The reduced time delay of the two-photon bound state is a fingerprint of the celebrated example of stimulated emission, where the arrival of two photons within the lifetime of an emitter causes one photon to stimulate the emission of the other from the atom.
