- Title: Recoil Momentum Effects in Quantum Processes Induced by Twisted Photons
- Abstract summary: We consider physical processes caused by twisted photons for a wide range of energy scales, from optical (eV) to nuclear (MeV) to high-energy gamma-rays (TeV)
We demonstrate that in order to satisfy angular momentum conservation, absorption of a twisted photon leads to a transverse recoil of the final particle or a system of particles leading to increased threshold energy required for the reaction to proceed.

- Abstract: We consider physical processes caused by the twisted photons for a wide range
of energy scales, from optical (eV) to nuclear (MeV) to high-energy gamma-rays
(TeV). We demonstrate that in order to satisfy angular momentum conservation,
absorption of a twisted photon leads to a transverse recoil of the final
particle or a system of particles leading to increased threshold energy
required for the reaction to proceed. Modification of the threshold energy is
predicted for (a) Photo-absorption on colds trapped ions of $^{40}$Ca, along
with emerging new transverse-motion sidebands, (b) photo-disintegration of
deuterium and (c) photo-production of electron-positron pairs in astrophysics
environment.

When the dissipation rate of the system is very low, there can be a reversible energy exchange between the mirror in the excited state and the vacuum field.

We show that in the inelastic collision of a photon and an atom, the twisted state of the photon is transferred to the center-of-mass state.
We also show that, depending on the experimental conditions, the twistedness of the photon is either transferred to the atomic center-of-mass quantum state or modifies the selection rule for the bound electron transition.

Spontaneous emission is a fundamental out-of-equilibrium process in which an excited quantum emitter relaxes to the ground state due to quantum fluctuations.
One way to modify these photon-mediated interactions is to alter the dipole radiation patterns of the emitter, e.g., by placing photonic crystals near them.
Our study delves into the interaction between these directional emission patterns and the aforementioned variables, revealing the untapped potential to fine-tune collective quantum optical phenomena.

We report on a quantum-nonlinear wave-mixing experiment where resonant lasers and an optical cavity define a closed cycle between several ground and excited states of a single atom.
We show that, for strong atom-cavity coupling and steady-state driving, the entanglement between the atomic states and intracavity photon number suppresses the excited-state population via quantum interference.
The system dynamics then result from transitions within a harmonic ladder of entangled dark states, one for each cavity photon number, and a quantum Zeno blockade that generates antibunching in the photons emitted from the cavity.
