- Abstract: Quantum self-interference enables the counterfactual transmission of
information, whereby the transmitted bits involve no particles traveling
through the channel. In this work, we show how counterfactuality can be
realized even when the self interference is replaced by interference between
identical particles. Interestingly, the facet of indistinguishability called
forth here is associated with first-order coherence, and is different from the
usual notion of indistinguishability associated with the (anti-)commutation
relations of mode operators. From an experimental perspective, the simplest
implementation of the proposed idea can be realized by slight modifications to
existing protocols for differential-phase-shift quantum key distribution or
interaction-free measurement.

Bell experiments have confirmed that quantum entanglement is an inseparable correlation but there is no faster-than-light influence when a local measurement is performed.
We show here that even though the inseparable correlation may be initially created by previous physical interaction between the two particles, the preservation and manifestation of such inseparable correlation are achieved through extremizing an information metric.

Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) effect can lead to a perfect suppression of two-particle coincidences between the output ports of a balanced beam splitter.
In this work, we demonstrate experimentally that the two-particle coincidence statistics of two bosons can instead be seamlessly tuned to substantial enhancement.

Two particles are identical if all their intrinsic properties, such as spin and charge, are the same.
Quantum mechanics is seen as a normative and algorithmic theory guiding an agent to assess her subjective beliefs represented as (coherent) sets of gambles.
We show how sets of exchangeable observables (gambles) may be updated after a measurement and discuss the issue of defining entanglement for indistinguishable particle systems.

We introduce a protocol to transfer excitations between two noninteracting qubits via purely dissipative processes.
The fundamental ingredients are the presence of collective (i.e. nonlocal) dissipation and unbalanced local dissipation rates.
The resulting quantum trajectories show that the measurement backaction changes the system wave function.

The rate of decoherence is suggested to be examined indirectly, with minimal intrusions.
decoherence is understood here as a general process that does not involve any significant exchanges of energy.
It is shown that the effects on tunnelling of intrinsic decoherence and of decoherence due to unitary interactions with the environment are similar but not the same.
