- Title: Hierarchical certification of non-classical network correlations
- Authors: Ming-Xing Luo, Xue Yang, Alejandro Pozas-Kerstjens
- Abstract summary: We derive linear and non-linear Bell-like inequalities for networks, whose violation certifies the absence of a minimum number of classical sources in them.
We do so, without assuming that nature is ultimately governed by quantum mechanics, providing a hierarchy interpolating between network nonlocality and full network nonlocality.

- Abstract: With the increased availability of quantum technological devices, it becomes
fundamental to have tools to guarantee their correct non-classical behavior.
This is especially important for quantum networks, which constitute the
platforms where multipartite cryptographic protocols will be implemented, and
where guarantees of non-classicality translate into security proofs. We derive
linear and non-linear Bell-like inequalities for networks, whose violation
certifies the absence of a minimum number of classical sources in them. We do
so, firstly, without assuming that nature is ultimately governed by quantum
mechanics, providing a hierarchy interpolating between network nonlocality and
full network nonlocality. Secondly we insert this assumption, which leads to
results more amenable to certification in experiments.

Quantum networks connect and supply a large number of nodes with multi-party quantum resources for secure communication, networked quantum computing and distributed sensing.

We demonstrate a general method to guarantee that certain correlations cannot be generated in a given quantum network.

Quantum neural networks (QNNs) have become an important tool for understanding the physical world, but their advantages and limitations are not fully understood.
Here we investigate the problem-dependent power of QCs on multi-class classification tasks.
Our work sheds light on the problem-dependent power of QNNs and offers a practical tool for evaluating their potential merit.

Full network nonlocality goes beyond standard nonlocality in networks by falsifying any model in which at least one source is classical.
We report on the observation of full network nonlocality in a star-shaped network featuring three independent sources of photonic qubits and joint three-qubit entanglement-swapping measurements.

cryptographic key exchange protocols traditionally rely on computational conjectures to provide security against eavesdropping attacks.
quantum key distribution protocols provide information-theoretic security against such attacks.
However, quantum protocols are subject to a new class of attacks exploiting implementation defects in the physical devices involved.
We present here the experimental realisation of a complete quantum key distribution protocol immune to these vulnerabilities.

We introduce the concept of full network nonlocality, which describes correlations that necessitate all links in a network to distribute nonlocal resources.
We show that the most well-known network Bell test does not witness full network nonlocality.
More generally, we point out that established methods for analysing local and theory-independent correlations in networks can be combined in order to deduce sufficient conditions for full network nonlocality.
