- Abstract: An accessible tabletop source for the production of entangled x rays is crucial for the field of high-energy quantum optics. Here, we present a detailed analysis of the entanglement and polarization of the two photons emitted by an electron in an intense laser wave (nonlinear double-Compton scattering), by working within the framework of strong-field QED. By identifying contributions to the emission probability stemming from the electron being either on-shell or off-shell between the two-photon emissions, we show that the entangled photons are generated via the off-shell contribution for moderate beam energies, which are realizable on a tabletop setup. We propose an experiment to produce and isolate pairs of entangled x rays, through spectral filtering.

vortex electron interactions with electromagnetic fields are essential for advancing particle acceleration techniques, scattering theory in background fields, and obtaining novel electron beams for material diagnostics.
We study the propagation of vortex electrons in linearly polarized (LP) and circularly polarized (CP) laser pulses, both separately and in their combined form in two-mode laser pulses.
Our findings demonstrate the versatile control over vortex electrons via laser pulses, with our formalism providing a reference for vortex scattering in laser backgrounds and inspiring the laser-controlled achievement of novel vortex modes as targeted diagnostic probes for specialized materials.

We design a passive conditional gate between co-propagating photons using an array of only two-level emitters.
The key resource is to harness the effective photon-photon interaction induced by the chiral coupling of the emitter array to two waveguide modes.
We show how to harness this non-linear phase shift to engineer a conditional, deterministic photonic gate in different qubit encodings.

Spontaneous emission is a fundamental out-of-equilibrium process in which an excited quantum emitter relaxes to the ground state due to quantum fluctuations.
One way to modify these photon-mediated interactions is to alter the dipole radiation patterns of the emitter, e.g., by placing photonic crystals near them.
Our study delves into the interaction between these directional emission patterns and the aforementioned variables, revealing the untapped potential to fine-tune collective quantum optical phenomena.
