- Abstract: The satellite mission EAGLE-1 represents an important step towards a future pan-European secure quantum key distribution (QKD) network. The public-private partnership behind the mission consists of a consortium of universities, research institutes, and companies partially funded by ESA, the European Union, and supported by national delegations. This unique combination of academic partners and industry facilitates a swift knowledge transfer from basic research to commercial application. Within the consortium, Tesat-Spacecom (TESAT) is responsible for developing and integrating the payload assembly of the low-earth orbit EAGLE-1 satellite. In addition, TESAT provides the SCOT80 laser terminal with minor adaptations for the mission. Here, we report on the status, technical aspects and TESATs contribution to the satellite-to-ground prepare-and-measure QKD mission.

This paper examines two Earth observation (EO) missions, one utilizing a single low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite and another through a network of satellites, employing a secure-by-component design strategy.
This approach begins by defining the scope of technical security engineering, decomposing the system into components and data flows, and enumerating attack surfaces.
It proceeds by identifying threats to low-level components, applying secure-by-design principles, redesigning components into secure blocks in alignment with the Space Attack Research & Tactic Analysis (SPARTA) framework, and crafting statements to the system design.

The low transmission efficiency of the satellite data relay back mission has become a problem that is currently constraining the construction of the system.
We propose a distance similarity-based genetic optimization algorithm (DSGA), which considers the state characteristics between the tasks and introduces a weighted Euclidean distance method to determine the similarity between the tasks.

This paper proposes a novel FL-SEC framework that empowers satellites to execute large-scale machine learning (ML) tasks onboard efficiently.
Key components include personalized learning via divide-and-conquer, which identifies and eliminates redundant satellite images, and orbital model retraining, which generates an aggregated "orbital model" per orbit and retrains it before sending to the ground station.
Our approach dramatically reduces FL convergence time by nearly 30 times, and satellite energy consumption down to as low as 1.38 watts, all while maintaining an exceptional accuracy of up to 96%.
