- Abstract: Spontaneous symmetry breaking in systems with symmetry is a cornerstone phenomenon accompanying second-order phase transitions. Here, we predict the opposite phenomenon, namely, spontaneous symmetry emergence in a system without symmetry. On the example of two coupled oscillators interacting non-symmetrically with a set of oscillators whose frequencies uniformly fill a finite frequency range, we demonstrate that the system state can acquire symmetry, which is not inherent to the system Hamiltonian. The emergence of symmetry manifests itself in a change of the system dynamics, which can be interpreted as a phase transition in a Hermitian system without symmetry.

We show that strong symmetry always spontaneously breaks into the corresponding weak symmetry.
We conjecture that this relation among strong-to-weak symmetry breaking, gapless modes, and symmetry-charge diffusion is general for continuous symmetries.

Non-Hermitian systems with parity-time reversal ($mathcalPT$) or anti-$mathcalPT$ symmetry have attracted a wide range of interest owing to their unique characteristics and counterintuitive phenomena.
We implement a Floquet Hamiltonian of a single qubit with anti-$mathcalPT$ symmetry by periodically driving a dissipative quantum system of a single trapped ion.

The symmetry-protected scattering in non-Hermitian linear systems is investigated by employing the discrete symmetries that classify the random matrices.
