- Title: Interferometric sorting of temporal Hermite-Gauss modes via temporal Gouy phase
- Authors: Dmitri B. Horoshko, Mikhail I. Kolobov,
- Abstract summary: We propose a device consisting of $m$ Mach-Zehnder interferometers and realizing sorting of first $2m$ temporal Hermite-Gauss modes of light passing though it by adjusting the accumulated temporal Gouy phase acquired by every mode.
We consider application of such a sorter with just two interferometers to sorting the Schmidt modes of a photon pair generated in spontaneous parametric downconversion and find the theoretical lower bond on the cross-talk probability of 5.5%.

- Abstract: We propose a device consisting of $m$ Mach-Zehnder interferometers and realizing sorting of first $2^m$ temporal Hermite-Gauss modes of light passing though it by adjusting the accumulated temporal Gouy phase acquired by every mode. This mode-order-dependent phase shift is achieved by a fractional Fourier transform realized by a time lens in one of interferometer's arms. We consider application of such a sorter with just two interferometers to sorting the Schmidt modes of a photon pair generated in spontaneous parametric downconversion and find the theoretical lower bond on the cross-talk probability of 5.5%.

We show a bimodal coincidence transmission spectrum when the input state is an indistinguishable photon pair.
This is due to the doubled WGM phase shift experienced by the path-entangled state in the interferometer.
At least a four-fold improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio is possible, with clear implications for quantum-enhanced WGM sensing.

We present a theoretical description of spatially multimode SU (1,1) interferometers operating at low and high parametric gains.
Our approach is based on a step-by-step solution of a system of integro-differential equations for each nonlinear interaction region.
We investigate plane-wave and Gaussian pumping and show that for any parametric gain, there exists a region of phases for which the phase sensitivity surpasses the standard shot-noise scaling.

We develop and investigate an integrated multimode two-colour SU (1,1) interferometer that operates in a supersensitive mode.
By ensuring a proper design of the integrated platform, we suppress dispersion and thereby significantly increase the visibility of the interference pattern.
We demonstrate that such an interferometer overcomes the classical phase sensitivity limit for wide parametric gain ranges, when up to $3*104$ photons are generated.
