- Abstract: We consider stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) when the final state is a superposition of two non-degenerate states. The system consists of four states coupled by two light fields. We find the relative phase of the final superposition depends on relative amplitude, width and timing of the adiabatic transfer pulses. We discuss these results in the context of experiments measuring symmetry violation in atomic and molecular systems.

We experimentally demonstrate an optical bistability between two hyperfine atomic ground states, using a single mode of an optical resonator in the collective strong coupling regime.
Whereas in the familiar case, the bistable region is created through atomic saturation, we report an effect between states of high quantum purity, which is essential for future information storage.

We present two alternative representations of the ground state that we associate with two different types of one-dimensional spaces.
We find that the entanglement of the ground state is strongly conditioned by those one-dimensional space features.
In the strongly repulsive regime the ground state changes smoothly from a superposition of Slater-like states to a finite superposition of Slaters.
