- Abstract: This manuscript investigates the possibility of defining a quantum Hamiltonian that leads to the same high-harmonic generation (HHG) spectra as those predicted by Floquet theory in the regime where the number of infrared (IR) pump photons is much larger than the number of emitted UV photons. The key assumption underlying our derivation is that the intensity of the emitted high harmonics is many orders of magnitude smaller than that of the IR laser, and that the emission of the Nnt harmonic results from the absorption of N IR photons.

We demonstrate numerically and analytically how the emission directionality and photon-photon correlations can be controlled by the phases of the modulation.

High harmonic generation (HHG) is an extreme nonlinear process where intense pulses of light drive matter to emit high harmonics of the driving frequency.
We show that the defining spectral characteristics of HG, such as the plateau and cutoff, are sensitive to the photon statistics of the driving light.
We develop the theory of extreme nonlinear optics driven by squeezed light, and more generally by arbitrary quantum states of light.

No class-B quantum density-matrix model is available to date, capable of accurately describing coherence and photon correlations within a unified theory.
Here we carry out a density-matrix theoretical approach for generic class-B lasers, and provide closed equations for the photonic and atomic reduced density matrix in the Fock basis of photons.
This model enables the study of few-photon bifurcations and non-classical photon correlations in class-B laser devices, also leveraging quantum descriptions of coherently coupled nanolaser arrays.
