- Abstract: The realization of quantum networks requires the development of robust low size, weight and power (SWaP) systems suitable for operation under harsh environments in remote and mobile nodes such as satellites. We present a source of polarization-entangled photon-pairs in a folded linear displacement interferometer based on spontaneous parametric down conversion using a Type-0 periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate crystal. Featuring a compact and stable double-pass geometry using a corner-cube retroreflector, the source has a detected pair rate of 2.5 M pairs/s/mW with a Bell state fidelity of 94.1% +/- 2.1%. The qualities and demonstrated performance of the source make it suitable for deployment in entanglement-based quantum networks.

A polarization-entangled source in the telecom band is preferred to avoid frequency dispersion for long-distance transmission in optical fibers.
Here, we report narrowband, telecom-band, polarization-entangled photon pair generation based on the superposition of single-longitudinal-mode photon pairs.
The photon pairs generated from the cavities exhibit a high coincidence to accidental coincidence ratio of 20000 and a bandwidth below 500 MHz.

We investigate the electronic structure and interactions of donor-acceptor pairs (DAPs) formed by various point defects in diamond and silicon carbide (SiC)
We show that polarization differences between ground and excited states lead to unusually large electric dipole moments for several DAPs in diamond and SiC.
We predict radiative lifetimes and photoluminescence spectra for selected substitutional atoms and show that while B-N pairs in diamond are challenging to control due to their large electron-phonon coupling, DAPs in SiC, especially Al-N pairs, are suitable candidates to realize long-range optically controllable interactions

semiconductor integrated sources of photon pairs may operate at pump wavelengths much closer to the bandgap of the materials.
We show that devices operating near the long wavelength end of the S-band or the short C-band require temporal filtering shorter than 1 ns.
We predict that shifting the operating wavelengths to the L-band and making small adjustments in the material composition will reduce the amount of photoluminescence to negligible values.
