- Title: Quantum Telegraph Behavior as a Result of Continuous Weak Measurement
- Abstract summary: We show that a simple model of continuous weak measurement gives rise to the telegraph switching behavior seen in experiments with single qubits.<n>This lends support to a continuous collapse interpretation of quantum mechanics, but can also be viewed as a model of continuous detection of a steady-state process in the incoherent limit.

- Abstract: We show that a simple model of continuous weak measurement gives rise to the telegraph switching behavior seen in experiments with single qubits. This lends support to a continuous collapse interpretation of quantum mechanics, but can also be viewed as a model of continuous detection of a steady-state process in the incoherent limit. We show explicitly that such a system obeys the Born rule for particle counting statistics, even though no particle behavior has been invoked.

We study the discrete-time version of the Quantum East model, an interacting quantum spin chain inspired by simple kinetically constrained models of classical glasses.
Previous work has established that its continuous-time counterpart displays a disorder-free localisation transition signalled by the appearance of an exponentially large family of non-thermal, localised eigenstates.
Our findings imply that the transition is currently observable in state-of-the-art platforms for digital quantum simulation.

Transition [0.0]
We show that for a many-body system evolving under competing unitary evolution and variable-strength measurements the onset of the Zeno effect takes the form of a sharp phase transition.
We show that this transition is invisible to the average dynamics, but encoded in the rare fluctuations of the measurement process.

In the quantum Zeno effect, quantum measurements can block the coherent oscillation of a two level system by freezing its state to one of the measurement eigenstates.
